Pawel the Accordion Player
This is Pawel. He can be seen performing with his accordion in and around Rittenhouse Square on weekends. Here's an amateur You Tube video of his performance.
The accordion was first patented in 1829 in Vienna. The instrument rapidly spread throughout Europe and the rest of the world during the polka craze of the 1840's. The accordion has since been integrated into many folk music traditions and other genres of music.
