Think about it. If you used the word
selfie in a conversation 10 years, no one would know what you are talking about. Now "selfie" has become the
Oxford Dictionary 2013 Word of the Year.
Why do we feel the need to constantly post "selfies" on our social-media pages? For admiration? To make our friends jealous? For validation? Maybe "selfies" are a sign of
self-worship? Pop Psychologists will argue on their magazine columns or blogs for years to come.
As the social-media generation, have we completely lost our ability to distinguish our
true desires from those which are
manufactured for us? When I am interested in something, is it "I" who is interested, or are my interests
manufactured for me?
