Overcast skies produce soft and balanced light. In the absence of harsh shadows, subjects will usually take on a three dimensional quality. When shooting under overcast skies, it is usually best to
exclude the featureless gray skies.
When overcast skies include dramatic storm clouds, it is possible to use the sky as a background to a primary subject. However, high contrast will often make balancing the light more difficult. And naturally, if the
storm clouds are subjects themselves, they can make great
landscape shots.
I would have setup this rally shot differently if it was to be taken under harsh midday sunlight.
