Guess where this paradise is?
For some reason, I repeatedly find myself at the
wrong places during some of the most exhilarating sunsets. When I noticed the declining sun on this hazy day, I immediately pulled over and reached for my camera. For only a few moments, the
cloud filtered sun did not overpower what it was illuminating. The picture above is almost representative of the actual colors of the day; albeit saturation has been increased here. The atmospheric haze provided the all natural
graduated neutral density filter which allowed this photo to be captured in one frame (Dynamic Range). What is missing is the faint texture in the clouds (Tonal Range).
Only a large format camera would have captured this amazing light with any justice. That is why many landscape photographers repeatedly setup at the same locations, sunset after sunset, until they capture
The Magical One.
