This photo was taken at
Hendrik Point which is located in Marin County, North of the
Golden Gate. You can see San Francisco in the distance.
The concrete slab that can be seen to the right, was the emplacement for one of the three 12 inch guns guarding the Golden Gate. Between the years 1897-1942,
Battery Spencer, protected the strategic strait. The guns were deactivated in 1942 and the area eventually became a part of
Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
Hendrik Point has one of the
best views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco.
