Interestingly, the Ancient City of
Amos has never been archeologically excavated, but plans are in place to
begin excavations.
Amos is also the name of one of the
Twelve Minor Prophets of the Old Testament. An uncompromising monotheist, Amos taught that God was the God of the whole world not just the Israelite's, that all men were equal in the eyes of God, that religion was about justice and righteousness and not ritual, and that we and the nation will be judged by social and economical justice - not ritual sacrifice and offerings as his contemporaries claimed. Active c. 760-755 BC, Amos spoke against the disparity between the very wealthy and the very poor and complained about the disregard of
YHWH's laws.
