Another one from the
Philly Zombie Crawl.
Most genres of music start off as a reaction, in rebellion and then somehow become mainstream, commercial or orthodox. Rock 'n Roll started as rebellious music. Hip Hop was rebellious. And
Punk Rock was a rebellion against Rock 'n Roll turning mainstream. Now, even Punk Rock has turned mainstream. "Punk Zombie" is an oxymoron, as is the "living dead".
This transformation from rebellion to orthodoxy is not limited to music. Most religions have their origins in some form of rebellion. Christianity, Islam, Taoism and even Buddhism challenged the existing paradigms only to end up becoming orthodoxies themselves. Or, in the words of Albert Camus:
"The only coherent philosophical positions is thus revolt".
