As expected,
The Tea Party failed. With comments like
"even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen" *, and,
"If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down" * from Tea Party congress candidates, it was bound to fail. The
Occupy movement on the other hand is in the process of reinventing itself. After
Hurricane Sandy, the Occupy Movement
joined relief efforts and
provided clean water, food, heat, and power to affected residents.
Rolling Jubilee, an Occupy offshoot, started a "debt strike" program where they buy random debt for pennies on the dollar and simply abolish it. Occupy is also supporting the
Walmart Workers Black Friday Boycott.
Walmart, the biggest retailer in the world, is infamous for its
shady business practices. The company receives tax breaks, free land, infrastructure assistance, low-cost financing and outright grants from state and local governments around the country. This
anti-union company provides low wages, poor working conditions, and inadequate health care to its employees while posting record profits. They reduce their employees hours so that their healthcare costs are covered by public programs such as Medicaid. And Walmart
busts unions,
threatening and punishing workers for organizing.
Stop Walmart!
The 6 Walmart heirs hold
more wealth than 42% of Americans combined. That is, 6 people hold more wealth than 130 million! If you haven't seen it already, watch the
Walmart movie.
