The historic
Empire Stores building in
DUMBO is not doing too well structurally. The structure is surrounded with scaffolding to protect pedestrians from falling bricks. On the positive side, the scaffolded pathways around the building have been informally converted into a street gallery, with new
art pieces popping up every day.
The depicted piece reminded me of the Spanish/Mexican folk song,
La Cucaracha. It is a simple but versatile songs whose lyrics changed over time. Most notably, during the
Mexican Revolution, both the rebel and government forces invented
political lyrics with hidden meanings for the song.
