The binomial name for the Greater Yellowlegs is Tringa Melanoleuca. Melanoleuca is derived from the Ancient Greek melano meaning "black", and leukos meaning "white". I can understand why the Giant Panda is named A. Melanoleuca but for the Yellowlegs it is a mismatch unless someone actually named it from a Black and White photo.
