Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge has a number of
Osprey nesting platforms scattered throughout the refuge. This one overlooks a section of Atlantic City.
The
Osprey is a large
bird of prey that has a diet consisting almost exclusively of fish. The species has a worldwide distribution. It's vision is well adapted to detecting underwater objects from the air. The Osprey was
another species effected by DDT use use in the 1950s and 1960s. With the banning of DDT in the 1970s in many countries, the
Osprey populations have since made significant recoveries.
