Here in New York, people work - most work long long hours. Here in the United States, under Federal Law, employers do not have to give vacation days at all. Where in Europe and other developed countries employers must by law offer at least 20 days or more of paid vacation per year, in the U.S., 23% of Americans have no paid vacation nor paid holidays at all - this number is much higher, about 49%, for low-income employees. And those who do work for employers offering vacations, they get about 10 vacation days a year on the average.

Why work? What is the practical wisdom in working around the clock, day after day, year after year, without really experiencing the world? Is it so that we can afford to buy all the stuff we do not need. Is it to satisfy our "need" to feel better than others who have less? Reconsider!
