The coolest thing about
street photography is that you can never be accused of
plagiarism. Not even accidental, unintentional and unconscious plagiarism they call
kleptomnesia. I guess that is what makes
street photography refreshing. In most arts, science and journalism,
kleptomnesia is an incessant source of anxiety; Is it really my idea, my words, my music, or did I unknowingly pick it up from somewhere else. Even writing a few words below a photograph is stressful.
Princeton University defines plagiarism as the
deliberate use of
"someone else's language, ideas, or other original (not common-knowledge) material without acknowledging its source". That's a pretty flexible definition. What is
common knowledge? And, how about "unwitting" use?
