It is said that patients of
Asclepeion at Pergamon entered this tunnel after they drank a sedative and spent the night in the dormitories of the Asclepeion. In the morning they ascended to the temple and told their "dreams" to the priests, who prescribed their treatments. In a way, the light at the end of the tunnel was both a diagnosis and a cure: We are told that the therapy based on both psychological and physical treatments was often successful.
