The
Addax is a
critically endangered species of antelope native to the
Sahara desert. It has very distinctive screwhorns. Well adapted to extreme desert conditions, it can survive without free water indefinitely. It feeds on grasses and leaves of whatever shrubs or bushes are available. Valued for its highly prized meat and leather, there are less than 500 individuals left in the wild, mainly due to overhunting. This photo was taken at the
Philadelphia Zoo.
