Philadelphia's 9th Street Italian Market is considered to be America's oldest outdoor market. Located just outside of the historic boundaries of the city, shops along 9th Street were established by immigrants during the late 19th century. It became known as the "Italian Market" during the 1970's, and since, Vietnamese, Korean, Chinese and Mexican run businesses have joined the traditional Italian shops.
