Images of crime and specifically organized crime long associated with Brooklyn are disappearing. In the last 15 or so years, New York City has become one of the safest big cities in the country.

With many neighborhoods going through gentrification, Brooklyn lifestyle has become a cheaper and more laid-back alternative to the Manhattan one. It's cool to be a Brookynite these days.
