Glossy Ibis; Non-Breeding Plumage

The Glossy Ibis is a wading bird that is the most widespread species in the Ibis family. It can be found in the warmer areas of Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and the Atlantic and Caribbean regions of the Americas. It is thought to have originated in Africa, but unlike the Red-eared Slider, it has spread naturally. Ibises have distinctive long and down-curved bills with which they prey on fish, frogs and other water creatures and insects.

This photo was taken at the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge located in Southern New Jersey, just North of Atlantic City.
