The Azmak Stream at Akyaka is a short - about a mile long - but deep river reaching the sea at Gulf of Gokova. It is fed by thousands of tiny springs spread throughout its length. This unique and environmentally vulnerable river and its surrounding area are rich in biological diversity but somewhat difficult to protect. Local authorities are considering applying for UNESCO World Heritage Site designation.
