Music Is Dead?
It is claimed that digital technology killed music. It might have played a role, but I think the death of music - if you can call it that - is related more to the death of culture. Let me explain. In the old days, we were born into a culture and tidbits of other cultures - be it in the form of books, stories, movies or music - captured our imagination. They were alternatives to our own culture. But the world is moving toward a monoculture. And the availability technology affords us takes the magic away. Most material is recycled while we are consumed with self-absorption anyway. There is no "discovery", just our self-image...
