Amateur Night announcement at the famous
Apollo Theater.
Amateur and
professional. The
etymology of these two words are revealing. An
amateur is a
"lover of [a particular pursuit]", whereas a
professional is derived from the verb "profess", which originally meant
"taking the vows of a religious order". In the contemporary sense of the word, it would not be unfair to say that, a "professional" is a person who has taken the wows of the religious order that is known as
"money". Be aware of "professionals".
In things spiritual [love] there is no division and no numbers; in things spiritual [love] there is no partition and no individuals". -- Rumi
