Although most cases are not reported,
cruelty to animals is widespread. This
statistic is pretty revealing:
"71% of domestic violence victims report that their abuser also targeted their animal". Think about that for a moment.
Abusers not only assault their partners, they also target what is dear to them, their pets. To put that in
context:
"Nearly a third of U.S. women have experienced domestic violence"!
There is a deep-rooted
culture of violence in the United States; From domestic violence to
police brutality to
overseas interventions, violence is evident at every level. Animal abuse is just one other consequence of the
culture of violence. Despite all that, Americans think of themselves as a
peace-loving people.
