Did you know that the first credible evidence of roasting and drinking
coffee appears in the middle of the 15th century in
Sufi monasteries in
Mocha Yemen. Despite appeals to ban the "Muslim drink",
Pope Clement VIII deemed coffee a "Christian beverage" in 1600. And in 1670, a
Sufi by the name of
Baba Budan smuggled seven coffee seeds from Yemen and introduced it to India. Those Sufis and Popes sure know how to recognize a good
stimulant. Here is the first stanza of a
proper poem by the master sufi,
