Caretta Caretta (the Loggerhead Sea Turtle) is an endangered species that has existed for 45 million years. It inhabits the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans and the Mediterranean Sea. It rarely comes ashore, except to lay eggs. Iztuzu is one of the premier breeding grounds for the
caretta caretta in the Mediterranean. Between May and October, the beach is closed between 8pm and 8am when hatchlings go out to sea.
