Somehow, I
know that this egret is in euphoria. This photo was taken as she was drinking, a little after she had eaten. It is much more difficult to read the state of mind of adult human beings. We regularly repress our emotions and suppress our reactions. Why do we repress? Is
repression healthy?
I sometimes wish that we humans were more like this egret, responding on-the-fly to the the environment and the stimuli that we encounter. But human beings are cursed with
future anxiety and the effects of past trauma. Our
fight-or-flight response is triggered by perceived everyday stresses like arguments, traffic jams, or even things we see on television, without actual threats. Despite our tendencies, we must learn to
exist in the present without needlessly contemplating the past or worrying about the future; We need to learn to "seize the moment".
Euphoria comes with
flow. Without
flow, what we understand to be
euphoria might well be just
mania.
