I've been seeing an increasing number of
stop-and-frisks performed by the NYPD in the last few years. This seems to be backed by
recent data. Concerns of
racial profiling has been raised in NYC, because most
stop-and-frisk activity seems to disproportionately target minorities. Only 6% of these stops have
resulted in arrests.
Is it
profiling or policing? Like everything else, it depends on who you ask.
White-collar crime on the other hand is disproportionately under-investigated and under-prosecuted, yet, it
inflicts far more damage on society than all street crime combined. It is comprehensible that there is a
correlation between
economic and social opportunities and
low street crime rates. The converse is also true; As corporate crime increases, so does street crime.
