Right up until the 19th century, some maps marked the unknown parts of the world as
"terra incognita", implying there were still "unknown lands" to be discovered beyond the seas. Aristotle spoke about
Terra Australis Incognita, "The unknown land of the South". When, what is now Australia was discovered, it was thought to be Terra Australis Incognita. And then,
Antartica was discovered in 1819. The exploration of Terra Australis Incognita, Antartica, began at the end of the 19th Century. Now we have
Google Earth, and being a captain is not as interesting as it used to be - Unless you are the
captain of your soul.
