The
Rastacap is worn mainly by
Rastafarian men to tuck their
dreadlocks away. Rastafarianism is a religion considered by many of its adherents to be a "Way of Life". If you are unfamiliar with Rastafarian beliefs, and especially
Rastafarian culture, it is well worth learning about. And of course, the Rastafari Movement became popular in the 1970's largely thanks to
Bob Marley. The Bob Marley song
War gets its lyrics from
Emperor Haile Selassie's speech made before the United Nations General Assembly in June 1963:
- Until the philosophy which hold one race
- Superior and another inferior
- Is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned
- Everywhere is war, me say war
-
- That until there are no longer first class
- And second class citizens of any nation
- Until the color of a man's skin
- Is of no more significance than the color of his eyes
- Me say war
- ...
