In the Genesis flood narrative, it is told that God decided to flood the earth because of the sinful state of mankind. Nicolas Chamfort wrote: "The only thing that stops God from sending another flood is that the first one was useless".

Apocrypha? Not so. Depending on which poll you might prefer, up to 60% of Americans believe in the story of Noah's ark.
