The City of Brotherly LOVE

The City of Brotherly LOVE

The King of Pergamon, Eumenes II, built the city of Ancient Philadelphia in 189 BC for the love of his brother Attalus II Philadelphus, who later succeeded him. Over 1800 years later, the modern city of Philadelphia founded and named by William Penn in 1682.

"Philos", in Ancient Greek means love or friendship, and "adelphos" means brother. Philadelphia is nicknamed "The City of Brotherly Love". The LOVE sculpture, pictured above, is a permanent fixture in Philadelphia's LOVE Park. Appropriately, I might add.
